1) 'Nora Leigh' Phlox in Container If you must be a container gardener, I suggest Nora Leigh combined with red spicata celosia. I stuck this Nora Leigh plant in this container box 3 years ago as a tiny plant that I thought wouldn't make it. It has wintered over in the container now for 2 years and has become the best looking Nora Leigh phlox I have -- much nicer looking than the ones in the garden. (Note: If you sow celosia in your container direct from seed like I did, I think it may have done better if I hadn't sown so thickly, or had thinned out the seedlings to about half as many.) (The celosia is 'Punky Red'.)
