Other info: In 2008 I sowed both white and red and had 100% germination, but got too busy and never got the seedlings planted in garden and let them dry out and die.   In 2009 I just sowed some red, and because of my heavy work load, didn't manage to get them planted until early June when they really should probably be planted in ground in mid-April, or at least by early May here in growing zone 5.   As with all the brassica family, there was a struggle with the white cabbage butterfly caterpillars eating the plants.   I hand picked the green caterpillars for a couple months then gave up.   The plants just started coloring up in mid-October, which was much later than I had hoped in use for cut flowers at the farmer's market.   Hopefully I will get the chance in the next few days to cut them and strip all the excess outer leaves and show what they might look like as a bouquet.  Currently you can see that the leaves are fairly eaten/chewed by the caterpillars.   Hopefully the flower heads will tighten up with maturity.

Germination: Easy germination. Just not sure when the seeds should be started. Seeds germinate easily in 3-4 days at 70°F. I have read that it is approximately 90 days from seed to harvest.  (Based on my experience, it seems more like 120 days.)
