Annual Scarlet Pincushion Flower Seeds......Seed from Scarlet Scabiosa atropurpurea Seeds

Type: Annual
Common Names: Pincushion Flower, Mourning Bride, Mournful Widow, Sweet Scabious
Height: 14" to 18"
Flower color: Scarlet-red
Bloom time: Summer
Light: Full Sun
Water: Average
Soil: Average to Rich
Other info: A nice fresh cut flower.   In 2010 I grew both the Burgundy-red and Scarlet-red variety (since both were offered by my supplier), and there is definitely a color difference just as in described by their colors.   However, although it was my intentions to get a photo of the flowers side by side since I grew both in the same large container, I failed to get one.   Perhaps in 2011 it will happen.

#1750D Scabiosa atropurpurea (Scarlet-red):
(Input number of packets into checkbox -- $1.00 per packet)
[20 seeds per packet]
Germination: Easy germination. Best started indoors 4-6 weeks prior to last spring frost. Sow seed in container on good seed starting mix. Cover seeds with mix. Moisten mix and keep mix moist until germination begins. Place container in a location at 70°F. Germination should begin in 6-10 days.  [However, I found that these actually grow well in large planter containers direct sown after last spring frost.]
